You've seen them - online newsletters you get from Bulletin Boards. These
magazines are good and interesting, but what they lack is color and graphics.
Now, there's an online magazine that's available for FREE through Bulletin
Boards and anonymous FTP sites. It's called GIF News, and the reason why
it's called that is because the magazine is stored in Compuserve's .GIF
format, thereby giving you color, graphics (pictures, diagrams, etc.).
Past issues included reviews on: Industry news, reviews of game programs
such as Sierra's new one "Jones in the Fast Lane" (complete with picture of
the game), the World of Amiga show in NYC last April, the Video Toaster,
the Soundblaster Card (along with Trak-Blaster program), US Robotic's V.42 &
V.42bis upgrade chip (summer issue), Bulletin Board Review (Channel 1 BBS
in Boston), plus advertisements of BBS's around the country.
Take note: ads under 1/5 a page are FREE! Contributions (to help defray
cost of uploading GIF News to long distance boards) will get you bigger
than 1/5 a page.
Want to see the latest copies (as well as some back issues)? You can get it
from the following sources:
FTP to wuarchive.wustl.edu and get gn90-11.zip (for the November 1990 issue)
gn90-09.zip (Sept. 1990), gn90-07.zip (July 1990), etc. It should be
located in the /pub/MSDOS_UPLOADS directory
FTP to abcfd20.larc.nasa.gov and it should be in the incoming directory.
Look for gn90-11.lzh (Nov 1990)
