jw2b@watt.acc.Virginia.EDU (Sara J. Wagner) (11/12/90)
I'm posting this for a colleague who doesn't have net access. Please respond directly to AEPARIS@SUVM.BITNET or MULLISH@NYUACF.BITNET. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ATTENTION: WP (POWER) USERS AND SUPPORT PEOPLE HENRY MULLISH AT NYU AND I (ARTHUR PARIS AT SYRACUSE U.) DISCUSSED & THEN POSTED TO THE WORDPERFECT LIST ON BITNET <WP50-L> THE IDEA OF HAVING A WP USERS' CONFERENCE. WE RECEIVED ENOUGH RESPONSES FOR US TO GO AHEAD AND ISSUE A DEFINITE CALL FOR SUCH A SESSION AND TO SET A DATE (FRI. 1/4, AT NYU). HENRY HAS ALREADY RECEIVED PRELIMINARY COMMITTMENTS FOR MEETING SPACE AND LAB USE. A LIST READER SUGGESTED THAT THIS WP CONFERENCE CALL/NOTICE BE POSTED TO USENET. OUR 2ND POSTING FOLLOWS BELOW. WE HAVE IN MIND A SESSION FOR INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED USERS (NOT NOVICES) AND FOLKS WHO PROVIDE USER SUPPORT TO USERS. IT WOULD OFFER US THE OPPORTUNITY TO TALK SHOP, COMPARE NOTES, TIPS AND TRICKS, LEARN NEW THINGS AND GET DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES ON (COMMON?) PROBLEMS- AND TO DO SO IN A FACE TO FACE SETTING, ALLOWING MORE RELAXED EXCHANGE THAN USUALLY OCCURS ONLINE. THOSE WHOSE INTEREST IS PIQUED, PLEASE READ ON, AND RESPOND TO EITHER HENRY <MULLISH@NYUACF.BITNET> OR MYSELF <AEPARIS@SUVM.BITNET>. ALSO PLEASE RECIRCULATE THIS TO INTERESTED FOLKS WHO ARE UNLIKELY TO HAVE SEEN, OR SEE IT. ========================================================================= Date: Thu, 1 Nov 90 11:43:44 EST From: Arthur Paris 315 443 2279 <AEPARIS@SUVM.BITNET> To: "WP 5.0 Discussion list" <WP50-L@UBVM> Subject: WP user's conference I have received about half a dozen positive expressions of interest regarding my posting of last week about a WP User's conference. Henry Mullish and I sat down on Mon. 10/29 and talked it over, and given the interest we decided to go ahead with preliminary planning for such an event. We are proposing Fri. 1/4/91 as the date and NYU's Greenwich Village, NYC campus as the location. As I noted previously Henry had secured a lecture hall and likely lab access. We need some indication of actual interest and likely attendance. Obviously, a conference of 20 is a much different event than one of 200. I haven't checked the WP50-l subscription file but it seems likely that there are many folks in the greater NY (& elsewhere, too) metro area who would be interested and aren't connected to the list. Any suggestions on how to reach those folks would be appreciated. I've thought of sending notices to WordPerfect Magazine, and the other mags. but the lead time may be too short. In any event we figure that we are likely to attract anywhere from 20 to 100+ folks, and at the moment those are the ballpark parameters we're working with. The finer we can make our estimates, the better planning we will be able to do. All your suggestions and critiques are welcomed.
