Forgive me if this topic has been recently discussed. I don't normally read this newsgroup and I couldn't find anythign relevant in the last 1300 articles... I'd like to get information about Tape Backup file formats used by PC applications. Not tape formats, which are pretty much drive or vendor dependent, but the formats used by the backup applications to store files. I'm not looking for a technical description of each format, but more a feel for which backup applications are the most popular, and what formats they use. In the UNIX world, tar seems to be the most popular format for writing files to tapes. I'm looking for a PC analogue. That is to say, if I were going to write a backup program for the PC, or wanted to interchange backup tapes from another system with the PC, what format should I write the files to the tapes in? Please email responses to me, and I'll summarize to the newsgroup. advTHANKSance, --Bob Preferred: bebert.osbu_north@xerox.com Alternate: ebert@arisia.UUCP Another one: ebert@arisia.xerox.com Last choice: 70007,3505@compuserve.com Desperation: (408) 737-4642 Waste of time: Bob Ebert, 475 Oakmead Pky.
