I'm tired of all the rediculous talk about monster power supplies. The fact is, it is simply _NOT TRUE_ that a 100 or 110 watt power supply cannot satisfactorily power a slim-line 386SX system. I am using a Quantum 105MB IDE drive, Token Ring Adapter (full length), 3 serial ports, one parallel port, 3.5" floppy, and the power hungry Wangtek tape drive and controller card. All this with a 100 watt power supply. Folks, the new drives don't eat as much power as the ancient full height ones. My 105Mb drive uses _7_ watts. The tape drive uses 49. Does this tell you what a normal system without a tape drive requires??!!?? I used a Tandy 1000TX with a 67 watt power supply with a 3.5" drive, 5.25" drive, 20Mb hard card, and four other expansion cards for 2 years with no problems. Large power supplies are nice... but not required. David Dwiggins (dd2x@andrew.cmu.edu)
