Try typing MODE MONO.  This should switch to the mono monitor.   Typing
MODE CO80 should switch you back to the VGA.

Actually there are some good reasons to have dual monitors.  It is a great
way to work with a debugger.  Most of the major debuggers (CodeView,
Periscope, MultiScope, etc.) can work with it.  It is also a good way to
test if your software is compatible with a variety of graphics cards, since
the VGA's generally do EGA and CGA, and the herc card can do herc and MDA.
