Then get a diagram of the Mac serial port connector and compare it to the IIP's. Most peripheral devices expect transmitted and received data (Tx and Rx) on the opposite pins that modems expect. Your problem may simply be the wrong Mac cable. You want to make sure the Mac's transmitted data line connects to the printer's received data pin.
