robert@ireq.hydro.qc.ca (R.Meunier 8516) (11/19/90)

I am reposting, sorry if you receive it for the second time.

CALL FOR DISCUSSION - please respond

NAME:
	comp.lang.basic

STATUS:
	unmoderated

CHARTER:

BASIC went from as learning language to a toy language (apple, commore, etc...)
but is now a real programming language with a lot of possibilite with powerful
compiler (QuickBasic, turboBasic, trueBasic, etc ...). There is even an
implemantation of QuickBasic on UNIX sold by BASMARK.
This group will be intended to everyone using Basic as a programming tool on
any platform and to discuss and exchange programming technics.

WHY A NEW GROUP:
Actually, there is no group about Basic programming. Basic programmer has to
post their questions in C or OS.PROGRAMMER newgroups where it shouldn't belong

SCHEDULE:
1.	DISCUSSION
The discussion period begin on friday, november 19.
It ends on Sunday, december 19.

Actually, the place to post is the same as for any language which does not have
its own newsgroup, comp.lang.misc. There hase been no traffic on basic in this
group and I have seen nothing in the two groups you mentioned. Why do you think
a group needs to be split for this? How much traffic on basic is there
currently?

As an aside, I think it would be useful for proponents of splitting newsgroups
to include traffic statistics in their call for discussion or an explaination
of why traffic is not relavant to the discussion.

I would like to see a group on BASIC -- I do some work with the program,
but don't have time to wade through multiple newsgroups trying to find
other BASIC users. And, given the current flame wars going on in
comp.lang.misc, that's the last place I want to be.
