[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] BIOS and 3.5" drive compatability.

shepard@bsu-cs.bsu.edu (Brett Shepard) (11/22/90)

Please forgive me if this has just been hashed to death, but...

I am the proud new owner of an 8Mhz 286 (hey! it's better than the 8086!) and
I would like to put a 1.44M 3.5" drive in it.

It is a Standard Brands 286 with Pheonix BIOS. The BIOS is dated 1986, and
is version 3.07.

Does anyone know if this particular incarnation will support HD 3.5" drives?
If not, are there any suggestions on what is the minimum version I'll need?
Does anyone feel that there is a better BIOS than Pheonix?
Any suggestions on where to get a good price and good service?

Please e-mail, I'm a busy college student who barely gets time to read news-
groups for pleasure, to say nothing of having time to read for information!
:-)

Thanks in advance for the wonderful overflow of information I know I'm about
to recieve.

BTW- If this is in a frequently asked questions list, I would happily read
through the whole list to find this small morsel of information.
