johnd@petfe.UUCP (John Decatur) (07/26/85)

Does anyone have any info on if there is an inexpensive receiver on
the market yet for 900 mhz ? I have a bearcat 210xl and it stops abt
512 mhz. Perhaps a converter? I have an mfj converter for my handie for
154 ish to abt 164 and it works ok. It seems to be a growing trend here
on the east coast toward 900 , several police dept's have gone, now my
local town, cellular, and amateur, sure would like to listen to the
 activity there.
                                      tnx in advance...

band.

Yes, the Regency MX7000 covers 25-550 MHz and 800-1200 Mhz. It
lists for around $400-$500. I have played with the MX5000, which I guess
is the same scanner without the 800-1200 Mhz (looks the same and they have
a common maintenance manual). I noticed two annoyances: The scan rate is
slow (~5 channels per second), and you have to access individual channels
by keying in the number on the front panel - there is no single button
channel select. It has 20 channels.

By the way, the best place to find scanner ads at discount prices
seems to be "Popular Communications." However, I suggest you ignore the
articles unless you are prepared to sacrifice your technical knowledge and
common sense.

I worked the Space Shuttle Challenger W0ORE today and
received acknowledgement. Rig was 160W FM to 14el beam accurately pointed.
Range at contact was 830 miles.
