What POP/SMTP based MS-DOS mail products are people using? We want to deploy a POP based mail system for PCs and Mac in the next three months. For the Mac we're looking at Tech Mail and Eudora (sp?). We need suggestions for the PC. The perfect product will work with the packet driver, cost nothing, include source code, and be easy to use. If it is for "non commercial use" (or something like that) then the KA9Q NOS package is all of those things. Originally designed for use with amateur radio, there is the Clarkson packet drivers for use with most ethernet cards. SMTP is built in but I believe that POP is an optional package. There is a mailing list for developers of the package: Send Replies or notes for publication to: <TCP-Group@UCSD.Edu>. Subscription requests to <TCP-Group-REQUEST@UCSD.Edu>. Problems you can't solve otherwise to brian@ucsd.edu. Archives of past issues of the TCP-Group Digest are available (by FTP only) from UCSD.Edu in directory "mailarchives". It is available at several FTP sites. You really want to look at the new IMAP rel. 2 distribution from Washington (Mark Crispin being one of the authors). It looks wonderful, and it contains servers and clients for IMAP, POP2, POP3, on Unix, Next, Mac and MSDOS. It can be had from cac.wahington.edu, directory /imap. You also need to get ccmd from cunixf.cc.columbia.edu, directory /ccmd; once you are ftp'ing from columbia, you might also want to get their very sophisticated mm unix mailer, which I have never used, but seems to be very good, and is in directory /mm. -- Piercarlo Grandi | ARPA: pcg%uk.ac.aber.cs@nsfnet-relay.ac.uk Dept of CS, UCW Aberystwyth | UUCP: ...!mcsun!ukc!aber-cs!pcg Penglais, Aberystwyth SY23 3BZ, UK | INET: pcg@cs.aber.ac.uk
