[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Establishing a UUCP site.

sobh@grasp.cis.upenn.edu (Tarek M. Sobh) (11/22/90)

Hi netters,

I would like to ask how can one "make" a UUCP site, in particular, I have
a PC and a modem, is it possible to have my home computer as a UUCP site ?
What are the software, OS, tools .. etc that are needed to do that, What
are the costs incurred before and after establishing the site ?

I would appreciate it if you can reply by email, I will post a summary
to the net.

Thanks in advance.

To establish a UUCP site:

1. You need a copy of UUCP for MS/DOS.
I know of two public domain/shareware ones:
UUPC (sic) and FSUUCP, both available easily.

There are also program products that are available, but I don't know whose.

2. A UNIX system that will let you dial into and UUCP mail and files.
Not that dificult to find, you can ask on the net.

If you can't get one for free, UUNET Communications Services will allow
you to use their system for $35 a month plus connect charges.

UUNET has the advantages of being directly on the INTERNET (that makes
you a only one hop off) and very reliable.
