[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] How to re-connect a lost SpeedStor partition ?

L.Chisholm@massey.ac.nz (Len Chisholm) (12/06/90)

We have in our Department at Massey University a PC-AT clone
which came from another University and was partitioned using
SpeedStor as it contains an 80 MB hard disk. The disk partition
table was trashed by a power outage , and rebuilt using Norton
Disk Doctor 4.5 Advanced. However , this has marked both
partitions as being DOS partitions , and we need wish to re-
connect the SpeedStor partition if possible. Of course , the
SpeedStor main program is not on the disk !! Trying the values E1
and E4 for the partition identifier ( gleaned from the InfoPlus
source listing ) produce the message :

SpeedStor(TM) II Hard Disk Device Driver Version 1.07
Copyright(C) Hexis Design 1985, 1986. All rights reserved

Drive unit 1 , Partition 1 --error-- Partition is Unusable

If anybody knows the correct partition table type byte , or can
guess what the problem is , could you please respond ( EMail is
probably best ). We can restore the data off myriad floppies ,
but we would rather not !!

Thanks in anticipation ,
