[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Windows, Paradise 1024

ambush@kk4fs.UUCP (Ambush Bug) (12/06/90)

I'd like to throw this out at anyone who cares, before I spend money to call
Microsoft or Paradise to scream at them...
sooo...
I've got a Sanyo MBC-880 (PC/XT clone, not one of the little silver rigs)
with a Paradise 1024 Super VGA card w/512K (allegedly 100% register level
compatible with VGA) and an extrememly cranky copy of Windows 3.0.
Not having a 3.5" drive, I copied the files to 5 1/4" disks, and tried to
install it.
To make a long story longet, the only video drivers I can get to work are
the CGA (barf!) Hercules (almost tolerable) that came with Windows, and
Paradise's 640x480x256 SVGA driver. Every other driver (EGA, VGA, and the
other 2 Paradise drivers) lock up the machine (when installing it from
scratch, it locks up on disk 2, right after it installs the VGALOGO.LGO
file.)

What am I doing wrong?
Why is Windows installation routine so much worse than Apple's System
installation? Why can't I GET ANYTHING TO WORK!?!?

Oh yes, Paradise's VGA1024 utility will also lock up the machine if I tell
it to put it into EGA mode.

If you can't answer this, you can still benefit from this post...
does anyone want to buy a slightly used, not very Windows compatible PC/XT
clone so that I can buy a Macintosh SE/30?

thanks!

Trying to install Windows 3.0 on a machine that it is NOT suppose
to run on is your first problem. If you want GUI on an XT class
machine, get GeoWorks. That is supposed to really work and work
well on XT class machines.
