My father's thinking about buying an IBM compatible, a 286 or possibly 386-based machine. The question is: what brand should he buy and who should he buy it from? I'm not interested in the particular hardware specification of the ideal machine, I'm interested in hearing about any particularly good or bad experiences with IBM compatible vendors. In particular, I recently received a catalog from an outfit named TENEX Computer Express, a mail-order place based in Indiana; the catalog is impressive both because the prices seem to be competitive and because they give the impression of being reliable and competent. Maybe this is just good marketing... Anyone have any experience with TENEX? Thanks for whatever information you can offer on TENEX or other vendors who are your pick-of-choice or must-to-avoid. Mail or post, whatever's easier. I'll summarize and post responses if there's interest.
