Quick question: Can WP 5.1 use extended memory? [I'm in one place and my manuals in another]. I know it can use expanded memory using the /r option, but because of other programs which use the extended memory (Paradox 3.5/Reflex 2.0), I'd rather not use EMS drivers. Also, does this strategy makes sense -- using extended and not expanded memory on a cached 386 machine -- or should I switch? thanks, Sam Wilson [wilson@ix1.cc.utexas.edu]

I don't believe it does, but I could be wrong.

It all depends on what software you're using. If most of the software
you're using prefers one kind or another, you're probably best off using
that one kind, whether it's expanded or extended. One thing you might
want to consider, though, is a product like QEMM which will allow you to
a) put some of DOS, device drivers, TSRs, etc. into the holes in the memory
space above 640K, freeing up more conventional memory
b) have both EMS and XMS available to your programs, with the amount allocated
to each varying dynamically with need
