Having recently acquired an SCSI drive (CDC WREN III 91 meg) and controller (Adaptec 1522) I'm interested in evaluating their performance particularly because the combination subjectively does not seem faster than my previous iron (Miniscribe 44 meg 25msec MFM drive and WD1006 MFM controller). I understand that regular hard disk test utilities give misleading results with SCSI drives because of extensive processing of the data by the controller. Does anyone know of hard disk test utilities specifically for SCSI drives? I found one program written for Western Digital SCSI drives/controllers on the WD BBS, called SDIAG.EXE. It's relatively complex and I'm not sure exactly how to use it even with the docs. I have recently heard that Disk Technician Advanced has a new release that is supposed to include SCSI drives, but have not seen it. If anyone has any experience in these areas, I'd be interested in hear- ing from you. hanks in advance. Will of course post summary if I receive any substantive replies; or if my SCSI consultant can figure out how to use SDIAG (I don't even know if it's safe to use on the Adaptec controller). The Adaptec BBS did not have any SCSI diagnostic programs on it, only a LLF utility for my 1522 controller. -- Michael Volow, Psychiatry, Durham VA Med Center, Durham NC 27712 919 286 0411 Ext 6933 mvolo@ecsvax.edu
