[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Miniscribe 8425

fidelio@apple-gunkies.ai.mit.edu (Rob J. Nauta) (12/30/90)

Hello
I've connected a second harddisk to my Xt, a Miniscribe 8425.
I use both HD's as 30 MB disks. The miniscribe seems to be failing,
geerating more and more bad sectors. Since I don't have a manual of it
(i bought it at an exhibition) I don't know where the terminating resistor
pack is, so I haven't removed that.
Can soemone tell me where the TRP is located, how I remove it, an if
this is neccesary ? Is it likely that it is generating my problems ?

Greetings, Rob

Re using a Miniscribe 8425 as a 30 MB drive, and it developing bad sectors..

I used to have one of those, and I'm 100% sure it's a MFM-type disk, and as
such only can safely formatted as a 20 MB disk.

(Yes, I *know* a lot of people push MFM's to RLL specs, but it doesn't seem
to work in this case..)
