[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] PKZIP Authentication scheme

schriste@uceng.UC.EDU (Steven V. Christensen) (12/31/90)

Hi,
I receive .ZIP files which have an authentication scheme, and
when they are unzipped, the give a verification number and usually a
company or individual name.

My question is how is this done? Is the name associated with
the number stored in the ZIP file?

I would appreciate any insights and/or comments.

This is a feature of the registered version of PKZIP. It's documented
somewhere in the depths of the PKZ110 docs...
