[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] 800k on DSDD disks with HD drive

jdd@db.toronto.edu (John DiMarco) (01/11/91)

800ks.arc as found on SIMTEL claims to format 5 1/4" DSDD disks with a
capacity of about 800k, using a high-density (AT-style 1.2MB) 5 1/4" drive.
However, under MSDOS 4.01 on a (authentic) IBM PC/AT, although the format
proceeds correctly and chkdsk reports 800k free on the disk, only 360k worth
of data can be written before dos reports a "Disk Full" error.

Is there a newer version of 800ks which runs correctly under Dos 4.01?
Is there any other way to get more than 360k on a standard DSDD disk using
a high-density drive?
