[net.ham-radio] FCC announces 80-90 channels

dsi@unccvax.UUCP (Dataspan Inc) (08/21/85)

ATTENTION !!!!!
Ham radio operators who want a commercial station...
Music lovers tired of 'Joy' 'Magic' 'Evergreen' and Madonna
Kate Bush lovers who think that these towns can support
     such a thing
People who wanted to know exactly where the heartland of
     America is

I am posting to net.analog the FCC lottery results for the 683
80-90 FM channels opened up beginning in October. NOW IS YOUR CHANCE
to own your very own RADIO STATION, and to change the face of
broadcasting forever...especially you people in net.music, who
could stand to own a few radio stations.

Best of all, they're FM !!!!!!!!

At worst, the towns make for some interesting reading. If you
know of any of these places, and their populations are under 1000,
please let me know (I'm curious about how many of these are swamps
and intersections of highways with a residential population of 39).

There are also details of how the assignments were arrived at,
and how you can compute where the transmitter has to go (a few
of these really are limited to an area of 1 - 2 sq miles or so,
the area being in a genuine, 8 foot deep, swampola!)

Happy Filing !

Sir--I would be VERY interested in seeing the FM station list, but
I am not enough of a hacker to know how to read it on net.analog.
Lord knows I've tried, but I have no idea how to get to the article
selection level in net.analog where I can find the header of your
message and thence read it.

So, could you either post it here on net.ham-radio, send me a copy
(PRICE@NOSC.ARPA), or tell me EXACTLY how to get to it via readnews,
please?

Sorry to sound like such a novice, but on computers, I am! Thanx--

P.S. Please don't tell me to read the "readnews" documentation as
I did and I still have no idea how to read news!

David,
This FCC lottery business is very interesting but it leaves me with several
questions. I hope you will be able to supply the answers or tell me where to look.

1.	Is there any way of knowing the class of each assignment?

2. What units are the spacings expressed in?

3.	Is there any way of knowing when the FCC will accept an application for
a particular channel? In other words, can I apply now for an assignment
from group #16 or do I have to wait until #15 is closed?

	Regards,
