I've decided to give my old '286 a boost by adding memory and my motherboard manual claims that I can have 4MB on-board by using 1Mbit chips. The only thing that I find unsettling is that my memory already has 1MB worth of 256Kbit chips, but my BIOS (AWARD 286 BIOS v3.03) doesn't seem to be able to configure that extra 384K as extended memory. Before I spend money on the 1Mbit chips, does any one know first-hand whether this AWARD BIOS will really acknowlege those other three megabytes (plus 640K of convention memory)? If I got another BIOS, would it be able to address those hidden 384K, or is this also a function of my motherboard?
