[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Summary: PC<->MAC file transport

var@garp.East.Sun.COM (Var Garapetian, Sun-BOS Hardware. 508-671-0298) (01/17/91)

A while back I requested for information on how to transport files between
a PC and a MAC, using 3.5" floppies. I received about a dozen or so
replies.

First, many many thanks to all who responded. Second, here is a summary of
the suggestions I received. Please note that this is only a compilation of
the information I received and I don't guarantee it's accuracy. I hope it
can be usefull to some:

Mac Solutions:
==============

 - "Apple File Exchange" program (AFE). The Macs with the letters "FDHD"
    on the lower-right front panel, below the disk drive(s), will work
    more efficiently with the AFE.

 - I am not a Mac expert :-( but if I understood correctly, the "FDHD"
   marked drives are also reffered to as the "SuperDrive", available on
   more recent Macs and SE's. If the Mac is old, 3rd party drives to do
   the same thing can be bought (eg "Kennect", "Rapport").

 - "DOS Mounter" program by Dayna Comm. Will work on Macs, with the "FDHD"
   type drives and will let files from a PC floppy to be seen under the
   "finder". The "DOS Mounter" is available for ftp from vega.hut.fi.

 - "PC Access", another software solution like above, but is commercial.

 - "SoftPC", is a full PC emulation software that runs under the finder
   on MacII's.

PC Solutions:
============
 - Copy II PC Options Board, from Central Point Systems (~$100) will read
   Mac floppies on an IBM.
