[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Mice - any good/bad/indifferent experiences

kap@eng.cam.ac.uk (Kevin A.Price) (01/15/91)

Yes folks it's summary time again!

What experiences have you had with different brands of mice?

I intend to buy a new mouse - either optical or opto-mechanical,
I haven't decided which yet. I don't know what to go for.

Can anyone help. Any comments at all, please e-mail me.

I'll post a summary if the response is any good.

Thanks in advance.

Now, I did not care for Logitech mouse. I love the
Genius mouse that comes thru Compuadd. It has a mouse menu
creation utility that is EXTREMELY easy and flexible.

Quality is good, and for one of the cheapest around, it
included mouse pad (better than cheap foam), menu S/W,
Dr. Halo, and 9-25 pin adaptors....good deal!

I like the Logitech Trackman, (a 3 button trackball) although I use a
Logitech mouse at work and like it a lot too. The Trackman costs about
$5 more, but you won't need to buy a pad. If you have a limited amount
of desk space, the trackman has a big advantage over constantly having
to push things out of the way to use a mouse. Another thing to think
about: if you're going to use it with a laptop, there will be many times
when you absolutely cannot use the mouse (like on a plane, for example)
because you're lucky if you can find a stable place for the keyboard,
let alone a second whole area for the mouse. If you go with a trackman,
you can hold it on your lap and still do things.

Well, using a Logitech Bus Mouse is ok when running MS-DOS or OS/2
perhaps even when running some kind of Unix but I had to learn that
there's no way to get it working ok under SCO UNIX.
So I changed to the Logitech Serial Mouse. I like those Logitech Mice
very well, too, and the one I've got is running well now for half a
year...

BTW: I don't remember exactly, but I think you'll loose a DMA channel
     when using a Bus Mouse...
