[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Remote operation?

boortz@sics.se (Kent Boortz) (01/22/91)

Is there any shareware programs that let me operate a PC from a
terminal? I have seen some programs that let a PC run another PC
but i want to run a vt100 terminal against a PC (actually a Mac
that runs a terminal program that operates a PC, no flames please ;-).

I have tried DOSGATE but failed to get it to work. I can't get it to
recognize my keystrokes on the terminal and the program I wanted to
run probably bypass the bios and then nothing appear on my terminal
screen (do anyone know if the author, Rich Bono, has an e-mail address?).

I understand that if programs write directly to the screen memory
it is impossible to catch the writing but I thought of that there
could maybe be an implementation that save the screen memory and
interrupted now and then to compare the saved screen with the current
one and then send the ansi-codes to the terminal to update it.
The whole screen do not have to be sent and mostly very little. If
you use GNU Emacs at slow speed on a Unix system you will notice
how clever it is moving and reusing the text that is known to be on
the terminal screen already and the cause minimal communication traffic.

I am so glad that you ask this. I have an ERGO 401K, and am experiencing the
same problems. Could you please let me know what you learn. I have tried
using Procomm. I am even able to get the two to talk. However, I can't
run anything from the terminal. please let me know. thanks

Jeff
