Some weeks ago I asked the NET about peoples experiences with GATEWAY. Based on that (and other info, i.e. price, warranty), I ordered from GATEWAY and received my machine on Friday (1/25). My machine is a 386 25mhz machine, 4megs ram 80megs disk VGA monitor, 1m on the adapter card 3 1/2, 5 1/4 drives, one each DOS 4.01, WINDOWS 3.0 I paid about $2450 for it, including shipping. It had one problem at power up, the s/w configuration didn't match the VGA configuration and WINDOWS wouldn't work. One call to Gateway solved it (in 2 minutes) and also generated an apology from them, their screwup. otherwise it seems fine and is only slightly slower than my IBM PS2 mod 70, 386 on my desk, also a 25mhz machine. That machine (with 8514 monitor) cost over $6000 a year ago, it has 8meg ram and 120meg hard disk. So far I am quite happy......All my old 8088-based s/w works so far, exactly as before BUT faster! BTW, that 8088 cost $3000 when purchased in 1982 and had one 360kb drive, one CGA monitor and 64k of memory ($3000 is what that cost, it was considerably added to since then, i.e. hardcard, memory, modem, etc). Thanks to all who replied and hope this helps some other purchaser. So far GATEWAY has been fine for me. joec@morgan.com
