[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] DISPLAY MODE Question

suew@hpnmdla.HP.COM (Sue Wood) (01/31/91)

I'm curious about text modes on my display.

I'm running 4DOS 3.01 on a HP Vectra machine with VGA display.

I downloaded a smaller font size via a fntload.exe utility that came
with the system (the VGA card actually). The font
I downloaded was 14 points high, slightly smaller than the conventional
16 pt font. I like this size much better.

With this size, you can get 28 lines per screen rather than 25. However,
DOS doesn't seem to know that. It uses only 25 lines of the display.
I could overlook this, but I generally run the MKS vi editor. And vi
knows it can get 28 lines on the display and does so without a problem.

The annoying part is that when I exit from vi DOS goes back to
using only 25 lines. (e.g., CLS only clears the top 25 lines).
So the bottom 3 lines of the screen continually display the residue of
the vi buffer because they never get overwritten.

Anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it??

Thanks,
Sue Wood
