Maybe he wants to transfer this file to ascii so he can transfer it to a mainframe, or any other computer using only 7 bits. In that case the best solution would be to use uuencode and uudecode. These files are available for the pc on many different ftp sites. If you ca't ftp, i'll mail them to you.
