[net.ham-radio] Vacuum Tube RF amp wanted

dsi@unccvax.UUCP (Dataspan Inc) (09/07/85)

Remember vacuum tubes, you know, the things which have little
heaters inside? When I was in high school, we had no trouble coming
up with them, sockets, chassis, power supplies, butterfly type
variable capacitors for push-pull tube RF amps, and all that jazz.

I'm working on a project where I need these kinds of things,
but they are pretty darn near impossible to come by. (I'd prefer
tubes because constructing VHF solid state class "C" amplifiers
is expensive...I expect to blow up more than a few active devices
in the process...)

Somewhere, sitting in someone's basement, there e ssits eexactly
what I need: a chassis, with several stages of push-pull RF
amplification, preferably at 6 meters. A power supply is not
required but would be nice. Total power output should be in the
10 - 30 watt range but I will entertain others. This device will
be employed in a project which WILL have the blessings of the FCC
before being put on the air (it will also be modified). I will
consider single-ended gain but would prefer the former type.

One-tenth watt driving power is available. Of course, if you
have a **real** commercial FM transmitter of the 10 watt variety,
I cn use this too (or exciter). This would have to be of the
direct FM type.

Please indicate if you have spares for this device.

Again, I emphasize that the project will be FCC licensed
under part 74 of the Rules and Regulations, and is absolutely not
to be used for illegal purposes. I'm not trying to cop a CB
linear or similar device. Supervision will be by several
general class operators and highly sophisticated equipment;
again, this is strictly on the up and up.

Owners of suitable equipment, please state what you would
have to have for it, and contact me directly via UUCP or snail
mail:
