[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] WANTED: references on statistical analysis packages

casais@uni2a.unige.ch (02/12/91)

I am looking for information on statistical software packages
for IBM PS/2 (i386) or Apple MacIntoshes. Such a software is needed
    in an industrial laboratory, so quality and robustness are necessary;
unsupported systems are out of question. The software is primarily
intended as a tool for analysing data gathered from laboratory experiments.

Ideally, the package should provide the following functionality:

o Classical descriptive statistics for series of data (mean,
            standard deviation, min/max, etc).
        o Classical statistical tests (t, F, Chi2, ...).
o Analysis of variance, plans of experiments (e.g. latin squares).
        o Linear regressions.
        o Non-parametric tests.
o Possibility to plot graphics, especially with lognormal scales.
o Any functionality especially tailored for analysis in the
            chemical area.

I would be grateful if people could send me specifications (name of
package, address of software vendor, if possible small description or
important points with respect to the functionality) for suitable systems.
I would very much appreciate precise references on comparative reviews in
journals, so that I can find these articles and begin an evaluation. I
seem to remember that there was a comparative review of statistical
packages for data analysis in a MacIntosh-dedicated magazine last year,
but I do no longer have the reference. Of course, I will summarize the
answers and post them to the net.

        Many thanks in advance.
