I'm getting ready to buy a computer soon, but I'm not sure if I should get a 386DX or an 386SX machine. The SX's are a couple hundred dollars cheaper, and I've read that for some applications like Excel, there is really not difference in speed between the two, as long as both are at the same clock speed, and the SX has cache. My question is, how true is this? For most of the things I do; writing and compiling programs, games, a spreadsheet now and then, it probably won't make much difference. But I would eventually like to get into some solid fill 3D graphics programming. Is the 386DX/87 pair faster at numerical computation then a 386SX/387SX running at the same speed? Or how about Microsoft Windows. Would an SX running windows be much slower then a DX? Does anyone know of any articles that talk about this? Your help would be greatly appreciated! [Tim]
