[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Problems with DR DOS 5.0

umcarls9@ccu.umanitoba.ca (Charles Carlson) (02/08/91)

A friend just bought DR DOS 5.0 and is having some problems with it.
His favorite DOS shell, Wonder +, won't work at all.
when the program is run, it loads up, the copywrite is displayed, then it
starts printing "command or filename not recognized" over and over and must
be rebooted to get out of it. Each time it prints the line, the drive light
flashes.
I've tried it when DR DOS has been loaded hi, and when also when its loaded
low, no difference at all.

Any suggestions?

Thanks...

You might make sure that Wonder+ is able to load the shell. I
remember having problems with getting DRDOS (many different versions),
regular DOS (again many different versions) and several other DRI
operating systems to load from the same AUTOEXEC.BAT file. My
experience with DRDOS 5.0 was that the default shell was put somewhere
where I wasn't expecting it, or it wasn't put somewhere where I was
expecting it. Either way, the above error message should lead you to
investigate this aspect of the problem (and if you have still have a
problem, call Tech Support).

In short, things I would look for first:

	1) Make sure that COMMAND.COM (I assume that Wonder+ is
looking for it) is referenced in COMSPEC. (I am assuming that it is
based on something that I have seen many years ago called 1DIR).

	2) Make sure that COMMAND.COM is in C:\. (Wonder+ might not
know to look at COMSPEC.)

	3) Try to determine what command file is not being found (re:
the error message denoted above).

I doubt that this is a problem with where the OS is loaded.
