[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Upgrading Vintage Tandy 1000. Need help???

srm@dimacs.rutgers.edu (Scott R. Myers) (02/20/91)

I have someone who needs to upgrade a vintage 128K RAM Tandy 1000
machine. I have a few questions for the net. I talked to Radio Shack
about the RAM upgrade and they have a board that will take it up to
384K for $229 & $59 for the additional 256K chips. I know I can get
the chips cheaper but is there another memory board that will work on
the Tandy to bring me up to 640K. The other question is concerning
hard disk expansion. I assume the bus is 8 bit and will support half
or 3/4 length controller cards. I already have a 40MB IDE drive.
Will the Tandy 1000 power supply support the additional drive and is
there enough space for the controller and the drive (It's half
height). Most of these questions are pretty obvious to me on most of
the IBM compats out there but since this box is 5 years old I thought
I'd ask for some help to be safe. Thanx in advance.
