[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] WordPerfect 5.1 and EGA question

ssubrama@keynes.ucsd.edu (Shankar Subramanian) (02/21/91)

I have an Everex EGA card and a mono monitor on my AT clone. The
card is supposed to emulate EGA and Hercules with the mono monitor.
When I use the setup key (shift F1) to change the display
parameters, WP5.1 auto-selects IBM EGA (and compatibles) for the
graphics type and announces that the monitor is a 2-color EGA and
for the text type it assumes that I have an ATI EGA card. However,
it doesn't display anything but straight text (no italics etc.).
When I change the graphics type to Hercules, it displays equations
in the equations editor correctly the first time, but the screen
freezes after that and I have to reboot the machine. What I'd like
to know is what can I get out of this EGA card and mono monitor when
using WordPerfect.
Another problem that's cropped up is that some of the symbols one
accesses by typing Alt followed by a decimal number such as Alt 179
for a straight line segment show up on the display when I enter
them, but not when I print them on a Postscript printer or view the
document on the screen. This doesn't happen on the machine in my office,
only on the one at home (the clone with Everex EGA card).
Responses and suggestions by e-mail would be appreciated because I
don't read this group that often.

thanks,
