I bought a system with a monitor that can do 1024x768. The computer's color driver consists of chips on the motherboard, which are only 800x600. The system came with MS Windows, which was installed correctly for that driver. But then I decided to kill Windows, and now the only way I can install PC Paintbrush is with "OS/2 VGA" which is 640x480. So I think I need a color card. I'm new to this game, and I don't understand the interrelation of specs for memory size, number of colors, resolution, and refresh rate. Would appreciate a summary and especially recommendations about brands. Can I do justice to a NEC 3D monitor for under $200? When I install a card, does it automatically override the built-in color driver? Thanks for any wisdom you can spare-- Christopher Brewster Cray Research Inc. 612: 683-5759 cb@timbuk.cray.com
