You should read the comparison of eight mail-order sellers of hard disks in the June 27, 1989 issue of PC Magazine. This is a survey of vendors, not disks. Two vendors (CompuAdd and Hard Drive International) provided better service than others. I've installed a few disks, but I've never had to determine whether a particular disk would work with a particular computer and controller card. I've dealt only with "supported" configurations. The actual installation is pretty easy. But you and I would both be much better off with the phone support provided by the two vendors above. Before you order the disk, tell the vendor exactly what computer and controller you have, and let them guide you through disk selection. If you buy from those two and the disk doesn't work in your computer you can return the disk. That would make me feel much more secure than if I would be stuck with the disk.

Hard Drive International is a great place to shop. The give technical support and a garentee. They also deal straight with you. You can also pick up alot of different backup devices. Such as the Core International 120/300 meg backup or the Archive backup devices. The Archive Backups use your floppy controller up to 250 meg. And they need a alternate card for above this. Archive also has drivers for different Operating Systems. They also have the Colorado 60/120 meg backup for $249.00. And if you want the fastest drives around, they also got new Ultra Stor Controllers for the ESDI line. With a Micropolis the timing on those drives is 0.3ms!! These controllers need RAM that will cost you though. You can still get the older Ultra Stor w/ 32k buffer. One of them is the 12F. - Greg
