Help! I need to find a program for an MS-DOS (386) computer. I got a short briefing on a rather large problem at work today. I hope I get the details right. I work for a company that maintains a list of UPC codes for manufacturers. We get a catalog from them (on disk) with a verbal description of a product, and we have to match their description to the description in our database. There may be assumed "defaults" in their description, (e.g. "black" means "cast iron" unless stated otherwise) and we may get a group code (they may tell us it belongs to group 18263, which is copper pipes) in which case they may omit part of the description. Our database of products currently has about 80,000 entries, and we have about 100,000 products to match against this database. **B00000000000000 we have about 100,000 products to match against this database. We get about 15,000 new products/week. Our current program was hacked together several years ago, and doesn't work very well. It's slow and only resolves descriptions perhaps 20% of the time. We're running on a 386 system with a 300MB hard drive. We have to be able to use our current product database (in some form). The program has to be fairly efficient. If it can't resolve a description it needs to ask for help. What program should we buy? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Steve Francis steve_jekyll_francis@cup.portal.com
