	Another hardware solution - the PC transporter plugs into your
	  apple II to downgrade it to an ibm style machine. You do (I think)
	  need extra floppy drives however. Cost about $400 us i think.

Sorry, but I feel the need to respond to this incredible stupidity.
How can you possibly say "downgrade to an ibm style machine" when
refering to an Apple II??? That's like saying I took the 12 cylinder
engine out of my Lambourghini Diablo to put in a 4 cylinder engine!!!
Apple makes incredibly slow computers when compared to IBM clones. 
This is in spite of the fact that the Motorola processor is a much
better processor then the 80x86 series. I will admit the new 40Mhz
Macs are fast, but for that kind of money I can get a 486 33Mh with
a 660Meg HD and 8 Megs of RAM. If you don't believe me look in
Computer Shopper. Apple charges outragous amounts of money for computer
systems that are woefully underpowered. And besides, any computer 
not offering a command line is not a real computer.
