[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Mouse on a '486 Machine

ib4@crosfield.co.uk (Imerio Ballarini) (03/14/91)

Hi. Anyone met this or related problem before?

I'm running Windows 3 on a no-name '486 box (Opti chipset on
motherboard). Everything is fine for a little while, then the
machine hangs. Only the big red button resets the machine (or
a power off cycle). Everything runs smooth (and fast) without
a mouse but with the mouse, bang! Same happens with other
programs that use the mouse and are in graphics mode. Text
mode programs work fine (e.g. PCShell). Tried various mice
and drivers on different comm ports and its always the same.
Could it be my display driver? I have a herc board in there
too.

My config is:
 - 486 with 4MBytes of RAM, no cache.
 - 1024x768 VGA (no name) card
 - Hercules compatible graphics card
 - 210 MByte Maxtor IDE hard drive
 - 5 1/4" and 3 1/2" high capacity drives
 - Two serial port card (no name) - Various mice!

Thanks for your time in advance.
