[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] ST251-1 with bad track 0

herrj@valnet.UUCP (Jonathan R. Herr) (03/10/91)

In reference to the above subject, I am trying to figure out how to
go about installing it. I posted once but it seems that my post
didn't make it out due to system problems.

Here's some info:

   Machine:	Protek XT clone
   OS: MS-DOS 4.01
   Drives:	Seagate ST225 (works fine)
Seagate ST251-1 (with bad track 0, not installed)
   		360K floppy
Controller:	Western Digital WD1004A-WX1 Winchester Disk
                Controller Board

I've downloaded the file TRAK0BAD.ARC from wuarchive and I realize
that it is still usable, but it mainly deals with drives that already
exist in a machine. Should I just do a low-level format and use the
fdisk program to partition it accordingly?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The only success that I have had with HDs with a bad track 0, was using
Seageate's DiskManager software. It seemed to clear up the bad
track 0. Then I would go back and use FDISK.
