Don't get tooooooo excited yet. HBO has announced the availability of their home decoders by the end of 1985 at a price of $400. (Broadcasting magazine, 30 Sept 85). If I remember correctly the monthly subscription fee will be something like $12 for HBO OR Cinemax, or $18 for both. I'm sure I'm right about the purchase price, but may be somewhat low on the monthly price. Bob, W3OTC ------

Don't hold your breath. The HBO scrambling experiments STILL are going badly, and the technical problems with the scrambling system have yet to be solved. It increasingly looks like other broadcasters may decide NOT to use the same system as HBO unless the technical issues can be worked out properly. --Lauren--
