[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] SYTOS & Data compression

linkr@groupw.cns.vt.edu (Roger Link) (03/21/91)

We have a Teac DC-1 "Data Cassette Streamer System", which
uses special tapes that look like audio cassettes. They hold about
160M. We are using software supplied with the tape drive called
SY-TOS version 3.00 EV-A (127296 bytes, 02-09-88 date stamp). This
software doesn't do data compression.

Does anyone have/or have seen a new version of SY-TOS that does
data compression???

SY-TOS appears to be written by "Sytron Corporation". Does anyone have
a phone number for these people??

We have had very good luck with this system. We have had no tapes
fail (I verify every backup. We run backups each day of the week for
different systems), and are using the drive with a LANtastic network.
It is quite fast, and has saved me & data numerous times. It is a
great improvement over DC-2000 backup systems (IMHO).
