INFO NEEDED: I am tring to install a 3rd and 4th floppy drives on a 386 machine with AMI 386-BIOS. I have a 4-FDD/2-HDD IDE controller. The name of the controller is "IDE PLUS Host Adaptor". It has a Motorola MCS3201 Floppy controller chip. The board has one connector labeled "FDD A,B" and another labeled "FDD C,D". And of course another labeled "IDE HDD". The Specs on the MCS3201 chip show support for 4 Floppy disks. I have tested the drives and cable on the "A,B" connector. The drives check-out okay. I have been experimenting with "DRIVER.SYS", but the drive doesn't work. I understand that 1st(A:) drive is drive 0, 2nd(B:) is 1, 3rd is 2, and 4th is 3. This is the line that I have been playing with in my CONFIG.SYS DEVICE=C:\DOS\DRIVER.SYS /D:2 /F:0 DOS reports "General failure on drive". Norton SafeFormat reports "Can not reset drive". Norton Sysinfo and CHECKIT both show the DRIVER.SYS installed. The spindle motor turns when disks are inserted. Is there a special driver that I don't know about? Is there something that I need to setup with the AMI BIOS? Could the 3rd and 4th drives have a different physical drive number? Ted G.
