[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] One year of comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc, in summary

raymond@math.berkeley.edu (Raymond Chen) (03/24/91)

The `old.questions' file is one year old. For those who don't know,
the file is a quick index to every interesting question posted to
comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc and related newsgroups since roughly one year ago
today, except for articles which discuss particular hardware vendors.

It's somewhat astonishing how frequently some questions keep
reappearing. The most common one seems to be on the subject of `Can I
read an XYZ disk on an IBM PC?', with grammar checkers and
vaguely-formed requests for screen blankers running a close second and
third. (People who ask for screen blankers rarely state the hardware
configuration they have, so all you can do is wave your hands and say
`Yea, it can be done...')

# Last updated 23-Mar-1991
#
# This file is a database of previously-asked questions on comp.sys.ibm.pc,
# comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d, alt.msdos.programmer, and comp.sys.ibm.pc.programmer.
#
# Use the command
# perl -e '$/="";print sort <STDIN>;'
# to sort the file.
#
# File format:
# S = Subject The subject
# Q = Query People who asked the question
# R = Reply People who responded
#
# Brief article contents are provided
# if the subject isn't totally self-explanatory.
#
# Types: (summary) = posted a summary on this date
# (request) = requesting comments/recommendations
#
# The purpose of this file is to keep a database of questions that have
# been asked on the newsgroups listed above. If you want to ask a question
# identical to one on this list, consider sending email to the person
# who asked the question before you. It helps to cut down on the duplication
# of effort. See also the file "products" that contains a similar list
# for hardware products.
