We have a most exasperating problem with an IBM PS2 Model 70 running MSDOS 4.01. The system has a ROM BIOS copyright date of 1988 and has been working perfectly for well over a year. I recently wanted to use it with some applications which required operating the system through the serial comm port. I discovered that I couldn't make the CTTY command work at all. I could run "Kermit" and communicate back and forth between the PS2 and another unit, but try as I might, I couldn't get CTTY to work. I also tried using DOS redirection commands to send the output from directories and the like to the comm port with no luck. If you use the CTTY command, the machine generates a write fault error and allows you to regain control by hitting ctrl-break. I also ran a special program I had written in assembler which outputs to the serial port through the ROM BIOS. This program also failed. It didn't lockup, but nothing came out of the serial port either. Does anybody have any ideas on what is happening and how to correct it? Another PS2 Model 70 sitting right next to it can do this with no problem. Our IBM representative says that there is no bug that he knows of in the early Model 70's. The diagnostic and DOS installation routines have been run so many times on this machine that it is probably the best diagnosed PS2 West of the Mississippi. Any help is greatly appreciated.
