[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] questions regarding emacs, and command-line editing

wytten@cs.umn.edu (Dale Wyttenbach) (03/27/91)

I'm currently using Freemacs Version 1.6a. Is this the "best"
free emacs for DOS available? The tags functions are missing
or non-existent, that's what I miss the most from GNU emacs.
(Disclaimer: I'm totally ignorant when it comes to Freemacs'
MINT language, maybe a tags package exists?)

Is there a way that I can use emacs-style command-line editing? I
automatically type ^P to back up the history list; this has the
unfortunate effect of sending output to the printer port. I'd
prefer a UNIX-like shell to a TSR, but even a TSR would be nice.

Please email responses, and I'll post a summary.

Thanks.
