[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Emerald Tape Drive Problem

Calling emerald tape backup users using EMSAVE software.

We have an internal Emerald 60 Meg Tape Backup (RAP60-2010 unit).
We were using EMSAVE 1.40 software (IBM windows version) to do our
 backups of a Novell 2.15 network. Everything backups up fine, but
 when we try using EMSAVE 3.0 the tape drive don't even work at
all. We get an Error Spacing Filemark on Tape Drive on all operations
except rewind. I called Emerald and tech support told me our drive is
defective ($350 for repair).

Is there a problem with the software calling the hardware? Anyone
with experience on this problem, please e-mail your solutions.
Can we try different software? Any suggestions before we spend about
half the price of new tape drive to get it repair ($350 + shipping & 
handling)
