[net.ham-radio] Icom IC-735 comments wanted

ora@gycsc1.DEC (Ora Jaervinen, CSC Munich) (10/16/85)

Having been QRT for over 15 years, I'm planning to (maybe) get active
again. The first thing I'll have to get is a decent radio. I don't have a
fortune to invest, and have more or less narrowed down my choice to an
IC-735. Does anyone have any practical experience with it? I'm also interested
in how the 1200 Bd serial port works, the local Icom dealer here (in Munich,
Germany) couldn't shed any light on this. My assumption is that you should be
able to control the rig similarly to an FT-757.

Or does anyone have any other suggestions? Rigs in a similar price class
(at least here) would be TS-430, IC-745 and FT-757. What I need is a medium
price (<$1000), preferably computer control (locks out TS-430 and IC-745),
good receiver (I live close to a lot of strong AM/SW transmitters), full BK
(I'm planning to get into RTTY, AMTOR, packet etc.).
