[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] VGA cards - which are good or bad or whatever...

demoydk@iitmax.iit.edu (Wanklerotary Engine) (04/11/91)

I have a Tandy 1000 TL computer, and I am already sick and tired of its
limitations. I am considering on getting one of several VGA cards for
the necessary replacement.

I am thinking of getting one of the following cards, so suggestions, comments,.
and other ideas are helpful (oh yes, even reasonably flames/etc).

Here's a bit of my list:

				Paradise Basic VGA
				Paradise VGA Plus
Paradise VGA Plus 16 (for my future computer)
				ATI Wonder + (256 or 512 version)
				STB Basic VGA 640
STB Autoswitching VGA (don't know if its 16bit)
Tandy VGA (8-bit card, I think)

And that's it. Note that I listed some due to reasons of keeping that card
for my future computer. Also, some of these might be nice for resolutions,
but I heard they are not necessary since no mode higher than 640x480 is
fully supported or standard (I DID heard about VESA (?), but it doesn't seem
to be catching on fast enough).

Also, I heard that Paradise based cards tend to be slower than some other
chip sets, like Tseng.

In any case, please, give me some ideas...

Thank you for your support!
