[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Interference Problem

Okay, I have a problem I need help with. Here's what I was told to do:
I just purchased a 386/33 with a SVGA Non-Interlaced 14" monitor. I was
told NOT to plug the monitor into the desktop so as to avoid having any
power spikes generated by the monitor from affecting the circuits on the
motherboard. So, I purchased a surge protector strip from my local
hardware store and I plug both the computer and the monitor into it.

The problem is, the monitor sends interference into the house electrical
system and creates wavy lines on the TV sets. I was told I needed to buy
a filter. I strolled into the Radio Shack at my local mall and asked about
such a filter. I was shown a filter that I plug my TV's into. I was
expecting something I plugged the monitor into.

What can I do to eliminate the interference without spending a lot of money?

Thanks in advance,

Jim
