>I have a problem with two ALR 220 386-20 PCs running
>MS-Windows 3.0. When ever these machines access the A:
>drive from Windows, they drop out of Windows, the A: drive
>spins forever, and the display blans as soon as a key is pressed.
>Both machines have a MS Bus Mouse board on IRQ3 and a
>3COM 3+OPEN Ethernet board on IRQ5. Other ALR 220s I support are
>set up the same way but work fine with the net and Windows.
>There is not any shadow ROM. Both machine had the A: drive
>problem befor the net card was added. Removing the mouse card
>does not help. The problem only occures in 386ENHN mode.

>I am totally stumped. Anybody got any ideas?

>Thanks!

I ran into the same (and more) problem(s) with my ALR 33/386 PowerVEISA
a while back. After several calls to their tech support, we determined
it was a problem with the BIOS. It seems that you need to relatively
recent version of the BIOS. After receiving a BIOS upgrade, WIN3 worked
just great!

Sorry about lack of specifics here, but if you need more details, send
me email.

By the way, if you call ALR, they will send you a BIOS upgrade and
charge you only a few bucks for shipping as long as you send them the
old BIOS in return! (At least that was my experience)
